Guest Lecture on Nutrition in Lifestyle Disorders

Department of Swasthavritta and Yoga, Faculty of Indian Medical System is celebrating 6th National Ayurveda day under the theme “Ayurveda for Poshan” through a series of events planned for AYURNUTRI 2021 which include Guest lectures, Awareness talks at nearby schools and villages, E-Poster competition and Cooking without fire competition.

AYURNUTRI 2021 was inaugurated on 26th of October 2021 by Prof.(Dr.) R.C.Kuhad,Pro Chancellor, SGT University & Prof. (Dr.)Jyoti Kumbar, Associate Dean, FIMS, SGT University in the presence of Faculty members and students of BAMS.

The event started with the blessings of Lord Dhanwantri & Lamp Lighting. Prof.(Dr.) R.C. Kuhad addressed the gathering regarding the importance of National Ayurveda day and motivated the students about the scope of Ayurveda in the management of various lifestyle disorders. Dr. Barkha Bhatnagar (Asso. Prof. & Head, Dept. of Nutrition & Dietitics, SGTU) delivered a lecture on the topic ” Nutrition in Lifestyle Disorders”. She raised the concern for undernutrition and over nutrition issues in India & highlighted the risk factors for lifestyle disorders like unhealthy diet, physical inactivity alcohol and tobacco use. Dr. Bhatnagar threw light on the concept of balanced diet, general dietary guidelines which included food pyramid, importance of glycaemic index in diet planning, superfood for heart health etc. This lecture was extremely informative for the students as well staff. This session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Bharat Vats (Asso. Prof. & Head, Dept. of Swasthavritta and Yoga, FIMS, SGTU).
